Keto Goes Bollywood

Indian Actress Natasha Suri recently joined the ranks of other celebrities who have taken on a keto diet. The Mumbai native chose keto as a means of preparing for her role in the upcoming movie, Bhanupriya Virgin. I am … aiming to achieve a lean body type by following the keto diet,” said Suri in an interview. “I hope to lose some inches and some curves and look lean and muscular.”1

Suri, who has worked as a model and tv host, admitted that giving up sugar and carbs was tricky. However, she says that she sees the gains as being worth the withdrawal. “…It will really be beneficial for my health in the long run. We are what we eat … I am always more focused on overall wellness and good health than just [being] size conscious.”

A Growing Trend

Natasha Suri is not the first star to try a keto diet. Other well-known names associated with the trend include Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Hudgens, Megan Fox, LeBron James, and Tim McGraw. Studies have indicated that low-carb diets like the keto diet can help people lose and maintain weight lossThe keto diet is a low-carb diet that uses fats to fuel the body instead of carbs. This puts the body in a state of ketosis, burning stored body fat.

Though most low-carb dieters look at keto as an effective weight loss program that can have auxiliary benefits like helping diabetics regulate their insulin levels, others, like Natasha Suri, see it as a positive lifestyle.
