In a success that stunned even herself, Kim Kardashian lost 75 pounds by following the ketogenic diet.

Kardashian was open with her fans about gaining 52 pounds during the pregnancy of her second child, a little boy named Saint. “My cankles are out of control,” she joked on her website when she was nine months pregnant. She then lamented her craving for potato chips.

Her diet plan initially started with the Atkins Diet, which focuses on cutting carbs while eating a diet rich in protein and fat. But she found true weight loss success when she switched to the ketogenic diet, which changes the body's energy source from glucose to ketones. This helps the body burn fat for energy, helping slim waistlines.

Body Sculpting on Keto

Whether you're a fan of Kim Kardashian or not, she is a good example of how body positivity and eating well can lead to positive outcomes in weight loss and body sculpting. In the words of her trainer, “Kim told me, ‘I love my body. I love the way it looks and I love my hips.' She just wanted more muscle!”

The ketogenic diet has become more popular among the bodybuilding crowd. The bodybuilding diet includes eating the right number of calories and eating high-fat, protein-rich foods such as eggs, fish, meat, and high-fat dairy.

Many athletes and non-athletes alike use the ketogenic diet in tandem with a workout plan that helps sculpt their body.

How Keto is So Effective for Weight Loss

But why choose the ketogenic diet, when there are so many other diets to choose from? Several studies show that low-carb diets are more effective for weight loss than low-fat diets. In a 2013 study of 132 severely obese individuals, researchers found that subjects lost more weight on a low-carb diet than those on a low-fat diet during a six-month period. The low-carb diet also improved insulin sensitivity and triglyceride levels.1

Even more encouraging, studies show that the ketogenic diet reduces hunger.  It encourages lower food intake than do high-protein, medium-carbohydrate diets.2

Who Else Has Lost Weight on the Ketogenic Diet?

There are more and more celebrities who are sharing their weight loss attributed to the ketogenic diet.

Actress Vanessa Hudgens gained 20 pounds in her role for the 2013 move “Gimme Shelter”. After filming, she switched to the ketogenic diet to lose weight. Likewise, after giving birth to three children, actress Megan Fox sticks to the ketogenic diet to keep the weight off.

NBA Superstar LeBron James praised the ketogenic diet in an interview with Sports Illustrated when he talked about his drastic weight loss after eating lean meats, fresh veggies, and healthy fats.

And finally, country musician Tim McGraw switched to the ketogenic diet after months of traveling on the road added pounds to his waistline.

By following high-profile people on the ketogenic diet, we can see how the ketogenic diet works to improve lifestyle and health status. Hopefully, by making the ketogenic diet more visible in the public eye, more people will be inspired to improve their health – and their lives – by talking to their doctor about starting the ketogenic diet.
