Sweet Bacon Snack

Sometimes you want something sweet to snack on. Sometimes you want something salty. When you can’t decide between the two, then brown sugar bacon candy is what you need to try! It is both sweet and salty and simply one of the best snacks out there!
This recipe for brown sugar bacon candy is extremely easy. All you need to do is sprinkle some So Nourished GOLD erythritol over strips of bacon then cook. The golden erythritol will sweeten the bacon and also caramelize on the bacon, wrapping the salty meat in a nice crispy layer of sugary goodness. Once cooked and cooled, the bacon strips will be nice and crunchy which is also perfect to satisfy any snack craving you may have- a good crunch cannot be overlooked!

While there are very few ingredients in this super simple candy recipe, it is worth noting some of the specifications. For example, we use Applewood smoked bacon in the recipe. Applewood smoked bacon has been cured using Applewood smoke. The bacon strips absorb the smoke from the Applewood (which comes straight from an actual apple tree!) and it adds a sweet and smoky taste to the meat. Curing bacon like this is a great way to add flavor without adding calories or carbs. Applewood smoked bacon is not a complete necessity (the bacon candy will be delicious no matter what kind of bacon you use!) but it definitely adds a lot of great flavor. You can also try using maple smoked bacon, hickory bacon, or stick to a basic low sodium bacon. Turkey bacon is great too! So many choices!

Another ingredient to make note of is the So Nourished GOLD sweetener. Golden erythritol was created to take the place of brown sugar in recipes. Brown sugar is a sugar that has been mixed with molasses, adding extra sweetness, moisture and depth of flavor to the sugar and, therefore, to the recipes it is used in. Of course, molasses is off-limits for those following a keto diet since it contains an abundance of carbs. Luckily, a new sweetened has emerged that is low carb yet has the rich flavor of brown sugar- golden erythritol!
If you don't have So Nourished GOLD and just can't wait for it to be delivered in order to make this snack, you can definitely use regular granular erythritol. Liquid stevia and other small quantity, low carb sweeteners will not work here. You definitely need that granular texture and you definitely need some bulk. You really want to coat the bacon in the sweetener to get the crunch and sweetness in every bite.
So Nourished Brown Sugar
Golden erythritol is perfect in this simple recipe as it adds a complex flavor without any hassle or extra steps. Just pure, simple flavor.
Give this bacon candy a try when you want to make yourself a fancy snack (it keeps well for several days when stored in an airtight container!) or serve it up at your next party- everyone is going to be obsessed! Enjoy!
