When Andrew McHugh joined the Cherwell District Council Executive as lead member of Health and Wellbeing, he was thrilled. He realized, however, that his own health and wellbeing wasn’t much to brag about. This spurred some lifestyle changes that brought fantastic results.

A Promotion and a Transformation

McHugh’s new position was an exciting step forward in his career, but it was also a bit ironic. He was the leader of Health and Wellbeing but wasn’t feeling too great physically. Sure, he was aware that he was overweight, but he didn’t realize how much. He weighed more than 50 pounds above his ideal weight. After seeing a photograph of himself, he was determined to make changes to improve his health. In about six months he went from 256 pounds to 224 pounds. He’s inching closer to his goal weight of 209.

He’s not the only one who has seen amazing results from going keto. More high-profile examples include celebrities Melissa McCarthy and Kim Kardashian. McCarthy made the switch to keto and surprised fans and the media with her dramatic weight loss. In Kardashian’s case, she wanted to lose the weight she had put on during her second pregnancy. Both celebs chose the ketogenic diet because it doesn’t involve deprivation and extreme calorie counting. In fact, this lifestyle change keeps people satiated without filling up on carbs.

Keto Fights the Fat

Like McCarthy and Kardashian, McHugh chose the ketogenic diet because of its effects on weight loss. Studies show that a diet low in carbohydrates is more effective than a low-fat one¹. When people reduce their intake of carbs, their body dips into stored fat for energy instead. Many people feel more energized and don’t experience the sense of deprivation and restriction that other dieters do. Some people don’t even count calories because they’re filling up on lean protein, non-starchy veggies, and healthy fats.

Not only that, but people who focus more on fats and proteins instead of carbs experience greater drops in bad cholesterol². So while people notice the weight loss, doctors take note of better cholesterol readings. As for the keto dieters themselves, they typically experience more confidence and vigor, among a host of other health benefits.
